LASER HAIR REMOVAL QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
Summer has just about arrived throughout Southern Wisconsin and here at Total Body Laser Skin Care of Madison & Milwaukee this is our peak time for Laser Hair Removal Treatments. Our expert staff combined with our state of the art laser hair removal equipment delivers amazing results to patients from Madison to Milwaukee every day. Part of the treatment process at Total Body Laser Skin Care is educating our clients and answering a wide variety of questions for them. Shaving around the scheduled treatment is a popular one.
Q. SHOULD I SHAVE OR WAX BEFORE HAVING LASER HAIR REMOVAL TREATMENT?
Laser hair removal works by directly targeting the follicle, where hair grows. A concentrated pulse of light energy is harmlessly beamed through the skin into the hair follicle. The pigment in your hair absorbs the heat and light from our laser and damages the hair follicle without harming the skin surface. The hair follicle must be intact to successfully remove the hair through Laser Treatment so we request our patients arrive cleanly shaven before their scheduled appointment. Please do not wax or pluck as you’ll temporarily remove the hair from the follicle. The laser has nothing to target without the hair which will result in an ineffective treatment. Our Licenses Laser Technicians also recommend our clients do not apply any lotions, creams, or deodorants before their Laser Hair Removal session.

Premieres PicoSure with Total Body Laser Skin Care
Madison & Milwaukee December 12th, 2015 – Total Body Laser Skin Care now offers PicoSure, the world’s first and only picosecond aesthetic laser for multiple aesthetic applications including tattoo removal, acne scar treatment, removal of pigmented lesions and wrinkle treatment. This unparalleled breakthrough in laser technology delivers ultra-short pulse bursts of energy to the treated area in trillionths of a second.
This unprecedented advancement in laser technology erases tattoos with fewer treatments and better results. Even tattoos that have been treated previously but failed to clear can be removed. PicoSure’s ultra-short pulse duration goes beyond photothermal action creating an intense photomechanical impact, resulting in greater disruption of the target for better clearance with fewer treatments.
“This is an opportunity to treat unwanted tattoos more efficiently with far less recovery time” states Jeff Kohl, Owner of Total Body Laser Skin Care. “After evaluating the treatment and clinical studies, there’s no question that PicoSure’s innovative technology provides us with the most advanced tattoo removal treatment on the market.
If it’s a more youthful appearance you’re looking for, the PicoSure laser also offers a quick and easy non-surgical, non-invasive option that provides impressive results without the typical discomfort and downtime of traditional laser skin treatments. Unlike lasers in the past that relied on intense heat energy which may have caused pain and led to significant skin redness and downtime, PicoSure’s gentler treatment offers a unique combination of leading-edge technologies. Our light-based treatment targets all three layers of photodamaged tissue, epidermal pigment and mid-dermal wrinkles.
“We’re excited to offer this new laser treatment to our patients for treating acne scars, wrinkles, and removing unwanted pigment in fewer treatments. The results are impressive and patients are satisfied with the treatment experience.”

Spider veins not only sound ominous, they look a little scary, too. Like varicose veins, spider veins are raised, twisted veins visible on the skin’s surface, but they are much smaller than varicose veins. Generally red, blue or purple in color, they look like clusters of tiny tree branches or spider webs and can be found in small or large areas of the skin. They usually appear on the face or on the legs and feet [source: National Women’s Health Information Center, WebMD].
Spider veins do not tend to hurt, but they can be unsightly and present a cosmetic problem. Fortunately, several treatments are available. To understand these treatments, it is important to know what causes spider veins. They can result from the same circulatory problems that cause varicose veins. When veins in the legs weaken or experience too much pressure because of weight, pregnancy, age, injury or long periods of time on one’s feet, blood becomes trapped and enlarges the veins. Sun exposure, hormonal changes and genetics can also cause spider veins to appear [source: National Women’s Health Information Center, WebMD].
Spider veins do not tend to cause people as much trouble as varicose veins do. Lifestyle changes can help alleviate spider veins and prevent more from developing. Some of these changes include elevating the legs, reducing weight gain, exercising, wearing sunscreen, and wearing support or compression stockings. However, if these remedies fail and spider veins continue to be a nuisance, you might want to consider laser treatment.
Simple laser treatment involves applying laser heat to the affected area — this damages the vein and causes it to eventually die and disappear. It is a non-invasive procedure that can be performed on an outpatient basis. The sensation of the laser light hitting the skin can be painful to some people, but the procedure generally isn’t too uncomfortable. A doctor should be able to minimize any potential damage to treated skin, but simple laser treatment can result in skin burns, redness, discoloration, swelling and other forms of irritation. All of these are temporary side effects [source: Essig, National Women’s Health Information Center].
Studies have proven simple laser treatment to be safe and effective overall. However, treatment results and risks vary from person to person. You should discuss any concerns with your doctor before pursuing it. Given the mild nature of most spider veins, you might want to try lifestyle adjustments before undergoing more costly laser treatment.

PicoSure Laser Hair Removal Facts
What is Laser Hair Removal Really?
Imagine a day when you no longer need razors, waxing or painful electrolysis to get rid of unwanted body hair. At Total Body Laser Skin Care of Madison & Milwaukee we offer the latest, state-of-the-art, PicoSure laser technology that awards patients with a safe, fast and effective alternative to dealing with unwanted or disliked body hair. It is affordable, fast, safe and there is no down time.
Laser hair removal can be done on almost all parts of the body. Some parts include the face, back, bikini lines, legs, arms and underarms.
How Does Laser Hair Removal Work?
Our PicoSure Lasers work by emitting a specialized light that is passed through the skin and preferentially absorbed by its target, be it an unwanted blood vessel, birthmark, tattoo or in this case, hair.
The laser used for hair removal targets the melanin, or color, in the hair follicle, damaging the follicle and removing the hair. Total Body Laser Skin Care features the PicoSure laser at our office conveniently located for our Plainfield and Chicago clients.
RESULTS: How Many Treatments Will I Need?
Hair grows in a cycle that spans six to twelve weeks. This is the amount of time that it takes hair to grow from the base of the follicle to the surface of the skin. Because hair does grow in these cycles, only a portion of your hair is being treated in the proper state with each laser treatment.
Initially, it is recommended that you undergo a series of four to eight treatments at three to eight week intervals to treat all the hair. These treatments will be followed up by a period of evaluation to determine how much hair will regrow and how fast the hair will return. This can be followed up with periodic “touch-up” visits.
**Once again, Total Body Laser Skin Care guarantees results and you won’t be charged a fee for touch up visits. Simply swing in to our Plainfield – Chicago office and we’ll make sure one of our PicoSure Laser Professionals finalizes the removal.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

THE NEWEST BEST TECHNOLOGY FOR TATTOO REMOVAL
Tattoo Regret? You’re not alone!
Did you know 20% of people regret their tattoo? That’s 1 in 5! The number is astounding, but not surprising. There was a 43% increase in the number of tattoos removed in 2012, and 40% of people cited employment concerns as a reason for having their tattoo removed.
How does PicoSure work?
Until the launch of PicoSure, Q-Switched lasers had been considered the gold standard for removing tattoos. Q-switched laser treatments use thermal energy to heat up and break apart the ink particles. Now with PicoSure, ultra-short pulses (one trillionth of a second in length!) hit the ink particle with a pressure so great, the ink shatters into tiny dust-like particles. Because the particles are so small, they are more readily absorbed and eliminated by the body. This can mean better clearance of the tattoo and less treatments overall!
Every tattoo is unique and contains different colors and different volumes of ink. It’s important to speak with a PicoSure doctor to find out how many treatments you may need, and what to expect.
Why PicoSure Laser Treatment?
As the number of individuals with tattoos has increased, so has the need for improved tattoo removal methods. Tattoo removal methods have evolved from potentially harmful treatments that often had painful and sometimes permanent side effects to less harmful methods with good results. Until the introduction of laser tattoo removal, people resorted to tattoo removal methods such as acid treatments, surgical excision, and dermabrasion.
PicoSure tattoo removal often requires fewer treatments than traditional Q-Switched lasers. Also, PicoSure patients and doctors have reported better clearance (or “disappearance) of the tattoo with improved recovery time. See for yourself! and contact a PicoSure Doctor today.
